My gold from recent prospecting

Hurricane Sandy put a literal damper on my gold prospecting escapades over the last week. I do however have some pics of the gold I found right before it blew through. Sorry about the focus. Ohio gold is very small and my camera has a hard time focusing on it.

  1. Very nice! I just panned a whole bucket of promising dirt from a dry creek down the road and NOTHING.
    So it goes sometimes.

  2. Where is the best place to find gold in a river? I started prospecting gold in a river in northeast Ohio. Where should I begin looking? River bends, straight aways, sand bars etc.... Let me know. Also how can you tell gold from a piece of sand?

    1. I personally like gravel and sand bars but before I get serious in a spot I do sample pans to look for specks. Even the smallest pieces will not move very much if at all once you have swirled the sand off of it. Once you see a speck of gold you will know it. Once I find a spot where I get more than 2 or 3 in a single pan I dig deeper.
